Today I’d like to review a program called WorldMate. The application provides you with travel information like for example weather forecasts.
Review conditions
I installed WorldMate version 5.10.34 on my Nokia N80. To update its data the program requires an Internet connection, therefore I used wireless LAN.
Installation
The easiest way to install WorldMate is via the browser of your smartphone. Just go to http://mobile.mobimate.com/s60 and download WorldMate. The installer starts automatically and you only have to follow the instructions as usual.
First view

After starting WorldMate the first time you have to register with your email address and configure basic settings like country and city. After you completed the basic setup you see the main menu. From here you can go to the different tools.
Main features

But before you start using WorldMate I recommend to open the settings and choose the correct access point. You can configure temperature and measuring units, confirming of connections and updating as well. In the free version you can use the tools clocks, currency, weather forecast, weather caster and world map. When you want to start a tool in WorldMate the application shows a short description of that tool. If you press dismiss the description won’t be shown in future. With the tool clocks you can see the time time of your and four other cities all over the world. Of course you can change each city via the options. The currency tool is a converter for three currencies at the same time. The rates can be updated via the Internet and you can change each of the three currencies individually.

Weather forecast offers you a forecast of the next five days for the city of your choice. The forecast includes highs and lows and the weather conditions. The data has to be updated via the Internet. With the tool world map you can see the day and night status of the world and the location of a lot of cities. The time and weather status of the chosen city is also displayed. The last tool is weather caster. Unlike the other tools weather caster works passive. You can configure two reports as you like. You can set days, time and if the report is visual or also vocal. A report includes highs and lows, weather condition and information about wind and humidity.
Handling
WorldMate is really easy to use and self-explanatory. You just have to use the direction keys and three buttons. Changing cities or currencies can be done via the options menu. That’s it.
Weaknesses
Because of the simplicity of WorldMate there are no great weaknesses. We were a bit annoyed with the advertisement of the pro version. Another weakness is that you can’t choose an access point when a connection is going to be established. Especially if you travel and use different access points this is unfavourable. A useful feature we missed would be to start reports manually and not only scheduled.
Conclusion
WorldMate is a really simple but useful application. It offers many useful tools, especially for traveling. Of course there are little weaknesses and the other three tools are only included in the pro version but because of the easy handling and the good information the program provides I rate the free version of WorldMate with 4 of 5 stars.
