Handy Calendar review
I’ve never been totally satisfied with the calendar that came as standard with my nokia 5800 phone so I was curious to see what Handy Calendar had to offer.
What I was most interested in was “week view” as the calendar that comes as the default/standard with the phone is a bit dull for my liking and lacks detail. I was instantly impressed with Handy Calendars week view as it clearly shows each day and the events scheduled. This was enough to impress me. Other views available include, month, week, timetable, day and tasks. I like the fact that you can preset the zoom level for each individual view and the app remembers each time you return to that view. Various colour schemes (skins) are available for those who like to tweak the appearance and I found “blue” to be easiest on my eyes.
By far the most impressive part of this app for me is that Handy Calendar uses the phones “regular” calendar database, meaning I can still access all the calendar-data created with the original calendar app with the new Handy Calendar. This means when it comes to syncing using the nokia software (Ovi suite, formerly nokia mobile-suite) it allows me to easily sync up with Outlook. And, yes, it worked! A must have app.
Epocware has given the Symbian community an excellent suite of applications ranging from the ubiquitous Taskman to the RSS reader.
I liked the Handy Clock the most because of its excellent features. The World clock shows the times of 4 cities which can be changed any time. The calendar shows the data for 2 months along with week numbers, which I find very useful. I can also set the calendar as the screensaver.
I use the timer to countdown my exercise routine and the Alarms for the early wake up call. Handy Clock also has a stopwatch and a Timelong thrown in. Its an absolutely useful productivity tool.
Here is my review of Handy Clock, from Portugal.
I’ve been using Handy Clock since the earliest versions and it is still one of the apps I must always reinstall with every new setup.
It features the following:
-World clock: This is basically a page where you can see your local time and the time at 4 other areas. Last time I used it I was in NYC and often checked the time back at Lisbon to see when it would be the best time not to wake up relatives.
I also find it useful at work since I intract a lot with coworkers in Japan and India and sometimes it is useful to see if they might still be at work, or are at lunch time.
Day-night map- This is a visually pleasant page showing the night-day cycle so you can quickly see which parts of the planet are enjoying sunlight or resting.
-Alarms: This is the main feature that makes me use it all the time. I’ve spent years waking up with this app on my old Nokia 6630 as it allows me to set several alarms to wake up in the morning for work or simply for misc events like my favorite tv shows, time to pay certain bills and so on. The high flexibility of configuration makes it quite useful.
-Timer: This tool helps you time a certain task. I don’t use it as often as the rest but it is sometimes very useful for instance when cooking (you can time it to ring when the food is ready) or any other task when you want to control the duration.
-Stopwatch: A full featured stopwatch, useful for sports events or similar activities.
-Time log: This allows you to log time. I used it at a work to keep track on how much time was invested in certain tasks and so be able to later determine the total duration of a complex process.
-There is also a clean, compact calendar view and a screensaver. I have used these less often but the alarm flexibility alone and the remaining features make this application interesting enough to be worth the bytes on my new Nokia E72. Ricardo -qwerty32355@gmail.com

Handy Taskman is a awesome tool that no S60 owner should be without. Its power is unmatched by the builtin “task switcher” or any of the competitors. It in fact should be the first app that anyone should install when getting a new phone or after a reset.
Although there are other players in this category, Handy Taskman is the most polished and mature of the choices. It has gotten better with every release and I would recommend it over all of the competition so far. It would be impolitic for me to mention their names in this post
but they are out there and I have tried tham all. whether your device is a S60v3 or v5, Handy Taskman is a must have app for it, no joke.
Hello, here is my review of Handy Shell:
Handy Shell is an application that replaces your standard Symbian idle screen with a set of plugins. You can have a line of shortcuts to your favourite applications, a line with the forthcoming event from your calendar, weather forecast for your city, a clock with an alarm and last but not least – Phone Settings Plugin consisting of shortcuts to your SMS/email inbox, call register, profile manager and Bluetooth application.
You may say that most of the items mentioned above can be found in Symbian’s idle screen, but I assure you – once you use them, you’ll never go back to standard seeing how much time they save you every day. For example, SMS/email inbox plugin shows unread messages count and pops up a window with the message’s text, so you can read it (and/or mark it read) without opening your standard inbox.
But the killer feature of this app, that is worth every penny, is T9-based search for your phone. Just start typing on your main screen to find filtered list of application and contact names and quickly run (apps) or call contacts from there. You’ll soon forget how to use menu button on your phone

One of the best applications in the Handy Tool Pack by Epocware is Handy Taskman. It is a feature rich task manager application that opens up whenever you hold down the menu key. Traditionally, holding down the menu key would open up the native task manager that allows you to switch between open applications and close them. With Handy Taskman you get a task manager that does that and more.
Among these features includes: listing of all opened applications (name and icon), display date & time, display free ram available and display free phone & memory card space available. There’s a favorites tab where you can list your favorite applications and contacts. You can also access any application on your phone by simply typing the name of that application.
Handy Taskman is one of those applications that you didn’t realize you needed until you use it. From then, you will be using it every time you use your phone. It’s one of those applications that Nokia should have integrated into s60 in the first place. It’s definitely worth the purchase.
